You’re never too old to learn something new. Although most fun, interactive museums are normally reserved for kids, Exploratorium is different.
Located at Pier 15, Exploratorium is a fully interactive experience with exhibitions centering around explaining how our world works. Much more than a museum, it’s an exploration of science, art and human perception with a huge collection of fun experiences to sample.

This holiday season, they’re holding “Glow,” a winter festival of lights, which includes the gleams and glistens of a whole host of special installations and kinetic sculptures as well as interactive activities, on show from now through January 20. And if you’re not so keen on the idea of children running around you, it’s perfect, as the program is entirely adults-only, including unique guest speakers and exhibitions.

Try their special installation, Kaleidoscope, an interactive activity consisting of an 8-foot-square light table made by artist Karina Smigla-Bobinski, where you can touch and twirl to change the layers of ink on the surface, creating hyperdynamic new images that visualize your motion energy into swirling, engaging patterns.
Or immerse yourself in the lights of Buckyball, a huge 25-foot illuminated sculpture by artist Leo Villareal composed of 4,500 LED nodes in two nested geodesic spheres, shining 16 million distinct colors for its viewers. We also love the disorienting world of Language Cloud, Laura Stevenson’s artistic exploration of the pattern-seeking nature of the human psyche. Scavenged and repurposed from old neon signs, this pleasantly disorienting jumble of letters and words will make you realize the beautiful plasticity of the brain.
With even more exhibitions to explore, this adults-only event at Exploratorium makes it the perfect place for a date night or catch up with friends.
