Poets House is one of those rare New York City places which most people haven't heard of and consequently is blissfully quiet, open and serene. Part library, part literary centre and part free space to hang out and get some zen time, Poets House should be the next place on your list of hidden NYC spots.

Located bedise Rockefeller Park near the Financial District, Poets House is a free space open to the public. Wander in through the park surroundings and climb the winding wooden staircase to find a serene space filled with books, comfy chairs and more. If you're looking for a place to write or work, this is it. The chairs and desks almost all have outlets next to them and you can login to the free WiFi quickly and easily without an account. What's more, the park and riverside location of Poets House means you can enjoy direct views of the Hudson River while you type or doodle away, which looks all the more amazing through the large, airy windows.
And if it's books you need, there are plenty. With over 70,000 books in their collection, Poets House lives up to its name as a national poetry library. You can even reserve quiet reading rooms to make sure you give that attempt at the new Great American Novel your undivided attention. Plus, there's always an art exhibit happening in the adjoining Cheney Chappell Exhibition Space to inspire you, which is currently showing a fascinating collection called "Gay New York: Walt Whitman to the Present."
