Tells us a little about yourself
My name is Gloria Mesa. I was born in Kinshasa, it is the capital city in the Democratic Republic of Congo. My family and I immigrated to the United States when I was eight years old. Prior to moving to New York City, I was living in North Carolina. I am the youngest of five children, I have two older brothers and two older sisters. I studied abroad twice when I was in college; I really love traveling and learning about different cultures.

What brought you to NYC?
I am completing a service year program with the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene in Brooklyn.
What has been your best experience here?
There is no other place in the world like New York City. I love how this city has so much to offer and there is always something to do. My best experience here so far has been being able to explore all the different boroughs and learning about the different cultures. One of my favorite places that I have discovered is the Malcolm Shabazz Harlem Market. It is a beautiful market that has a lot of unique items.
What do you think of co-living?
I think it is a great option for folks who moved to the city alone. It allows you to meet a lot of different people that can become a part of your support system. As great and beautiful New York City is, it is quite common to also feel lonely while living here. Co-living creates a space for you to be able to meet others and formulate good friendships.

What's been your best experience in the time you have stayed with Outpost?
I love coming home and having someone there present to talk about how my day was. It has been a refreshing experience to meet so many people from all over the world. I enjoy having conversations with other people and learning about what they are passionate about and what thrives them to be the best version of themselves. I have made some friends with some members who stayed with Outpost and we have remained in contact even after they left and that has been pretty awesome.
What are the 5 fun things we should know about you?
1. I am vegan
2. I am bi-lingual
3. I am extremely passionate about social justice
4. I love dancing to afrobeat and soca music
5. I am a sucker for deep conversations
