Our top 5 remote and co-working spots in San Francisco

Considering how famous San Francisco is for its start-ups, you’d be surprised how hard it is to find a coffee shop with WiFi and comfy chairs where you can spend the day working remotely, either alone or with others on your team. To help you get started, we’ve picked the top five remote and co-working hotspots for you to choose from.

The Station SF

Located between FiDi and North Beach, this slick coffee shop is the perfect place to get some serious work done. The speedy WiFi and calm atmosphere is the ideal environment for work, added to by the hardwood floors, large windows and comfy chairs. Choose from a full coffee, breakfast and lunch menu, including a long list of espresso-based drinks featuring a local roast: Sightglass coffee. The food is made daily from scratch and the cold pressed juice is the perfect workday fuel.

Verve Coffee Roasters

Verve is like something out of a design magazine: a relaxed coffee shop with pine, pastels, plants and art, making it the most inspirational place for your work day. Sink into the comfortable window seats and watch the baristas at work from behind a glass screen as you wonder how they managed to make the coffee this good. The group tables with plenty of laptop space are perfect for co-working, and the reliable WiFi will keep you productive throughout the day. Verve roasts its own coffee in its flagship location, Santa Cruz, meaning it’s always fresh and sustainable. Try the nitro flash cold brew with oat milk for the perfect caffeine hit (and maybe a sandwich, too).

Mercury Cafe

Mercury Cafe is an ideal workplace with a conscience in the heart of Hayes Valley. This light and airy space is filled with wooden tables and good vibes, with trees peering in from outside, and you can rest assured while you work through the day that all of the food and coffee you buy is sustainably sourced. The coffee is locally roasted, direct-trade from Four Barrel Coffee and you can pick anything from sandwiches to their ever-popular homemade scones. There’s even beer and wine for when you’re feeling the writer’s block. Together with the friendly staff and quick WiFi, it’s a great place to work remotely.

Workshop Cafe

What some call the future of co-working, Workshop Cafe has two locations in SF. It’s basically a mixture of a library, an office and a coffee shop, with colorful, modern decor, comfy chairs and an industrial-style setting. There are multiple work areas, including booths (each with their own outlet), easy chairs and stools, spread across an open-plan warehouse, with a cafe at the far end selling coffee, sandwiches, juice and everything else you could need to be productive. The one snag is the price: You pay per hour and reserve your seat, in a sort of short-term version of WeWork. But believe us, with features including seamless WiFi and the ability to suggest music for the curated playlist, it’s certainly worth investing in to get your work done.

Golden Gate Park

Why not head outdoors for a day of remote working? The city introduced free public WiFi in 2014, so you can access your files in the great outdoors. We love sitting by the observatory in Golden Gate Park, with the shade angled perfectly over our laptop screen and the world of remote working at our fingertips.
