What happens to your mail after you leave Outpost?

At Outpost, your house leader is someone you’re going to want to get to know very well. They’re your main connection to the company and will be there for you if you have questions about Outpost or if you need help with anything. Our house leaders are vital to Outpost and their wells of knowledge run deep. As part of our Ask a House Leader series, here’s an answer to one recent question for them:

Q: What happens to my mail after I leave?

A: One of the great things about Outpost is there’s no waiting in for your mail. Getting your mail is simple (we’ve explained it in a dedicated blog post) and your house leader is always ready to answer any mail-related questions. But when the time comes that you move on from Outpost to a new home (sob), you have to take a few steps to change your mailing address:

• Fill out a change of address form with USPS as soon as you move out, or even a day or two before. This is the fastest and easiest way to change your address. All you need is an email address and you’ll get an instant confirmation that the change has been processed. This should only cost you a dollar. (There are some scammers offering to do this for a service fee of $40 -- avoid these!)
• If you don’t like doing things online, you can also go to your local post office and request a Mover’s Guide packet, in which you’ll find a PS Form 3575. Just fill this out at the counter and hand it in at the post office (this option can take up to five business days).

We know that life is hectic and it’s only human to forget to change your address with the stress of moving out. If that happens, we do collect mail of old members every so often and return them to the post office to return to sender, but we can’t guarantee this or accept responsibility for what may happen to missed mail, so it's always safest to just make sure you've changed your address in time -- especially if you know you're expecting a letter or package.
